Tesla Paint Protection Film: What to Cover First
October 3, 2026 · Wrap Labs
Short answer: start with the front bumper, frunk edge, hood, fenders, and mirrors, then add the rockers and A-pillars if you drive a lot of highway miles. Those are the panels a Tesla chips first. Here’s how to decide how much coverage your car needs.
Where Teslas take damage
A Tesla’s front end does all the work. Gravel thrown up by the car ahead hits the front bumper and the leading edge of the frunk first, then the hood, fenders, and mirrors. Two other areas catch people out:
- Rockers. They sit low, right behind the front wheels, so the tires throw debris straight at them.
- A-pillars. The pillars beside the windshield catch whatever comes over the hood at highway speed.
If you drive the 101 daily or run the canyons on weekends, these are the panels that take the hits.
The three coverage levels
We install XPEL paint protection film in three main packages:
| Package | What it covers | Good fit for |
|---|---|---|
| Bumper and Headlights | Full front bumper and headlights | Light driving, the most exposed areas only |
| Full Front | Front bumper, headlights, hood, fenders, and side mirrors | Most daily drivers (our most popular package) |
| Full Car | Every OEM painted surface | Highway commuters, new or special cars, long-term owners |
Full Front is where most daily drivers start. If you log a lot of highway or canyon miles, the rockers and A-pillars are the next panels worth covering, and Full Car makes sense if you bought something special or plan to keep it for years. Tell us the car and how you use it, and we will give you an honest recommendation.
Every Tesla model, including Cybertruck
We install XPEL paint protection film on the Model 3, Model Y, Model S, Model X, and Cybertruck. The same three coverage levels apply to each; what changes is how much of the car you want covered.
The Cybertruck is different because its body is stainless steel. It takes film and vinyl, and it is one of our specialties: we install paint protection film and matte or gloss color-change wraps on it. See our Cybertruck builds.
What the film does
The XPEL film we install is a self-healing urethane: light swirls from washing disappear with heat, often just from sitting in the sun. It absorbs the impact that would have chipped the paint, and it carries a 10-year XPEL warranty against yellowing, cracking, bubbling, peeling, and delamination. More detail in how long PPF lasts.
Many owners pair the film with a ceramic coating on top for gloss and easier washing. We explain how the two work together in PPF vs. ceramic coating.
Why the install matters as much as the film
Film is only as good as the hands that wrap it. Every panel is cut and wrapped in-house by a master-level installer in our climate-controlled studio, with edges wrapped so nothing lifts. We have been an XPEL Authorized Dealer since 2017.
